Home Design Trends from the American Institute of Architects

Do you like trends? We not only like trends, we love them – especially ones relating to the kitchen business -- because these reported trends will eventually translate into cabinet orders and trickle down to Prévo.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Home Design Trend Survey is conducted quarterly with a panel of more than 500 architecture firms that concentrate in the residential sector. Residential architects are design leaders in shaping how homes function, look and integrate into communities. Their survey identifies emerging trends in the house marketplace.

The AIA Home Design Trend Survey results show that investment in kitchens and baths remains a top priority for homeowners. Kitchens remain as the center of the home with design features that accommodate multiple activities.

“Because kitchens are so central to the home, people feel it’s important to spend time and money selecting materials and appliances that reflect who they are and make them feel good,” reports Dawn Zuber of the AIA.

The AIA survey also released findings about “construction segments” and how they are performing since the Great Recession. The AIA states: “Though business conditions for residential architects remain solid, recovery from the Great Recession has leveled off. Remodeling and renovations continue to account for the core of the residential billings.” Music to our ears, right? Bring on those kitchen and bathroom renovations!
